Shailene Woodley Fights a Whole New War in 'Allegiant' Trailer

Tris (Shailene Woodley) is about to discover the truth about her world — but can she save it from destruction? In Allegiant, the penultimate installment of The Divergent Series, Tris and her allies go beyond the walls of post-apocalyptic Chicago for the first time, only to learn much more than they bargained for about how their homeland was created. In dystopian society of Divergent, an entire city has been forcibly divided into factions, resulting in all-out war. Now, after the struggles of Insurgent, the faction-defying Tris and her boyfriend Four (Theo James) risk life and limb to discover the world outside of Chicago. In the trailer, it’s revealed that the life they’ve always known is a centuries-old experiment. Says David (Jeff Daniels), the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare: “For 200 years, the greatest scientific minds have lived here to test a theory: If we could rescue people from a toxic environment and put them in a safe place like Chicago, perhaps they would heal it.” When Tris asks if she’s one of those people, he replies, “You are the only one.”

As it turns out, the people outside the walls are unsatisfied with the results of their Chicago experiment — and Tris’ whole city might be destroyed if the factions can’t band together. (On the plus side, they get to ride in cool-looking hovercrafts.) Allegiant, which also stars Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort, opens in theaters on March 18, 2016.
