Sex and the City

And just like that ... Sex and the City is turning 25! The show premiered on June 6, 1998, changing television, conversations around sex — and the careers of its four leads, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon. Here, take a look back at the core cast of Sex and the City, then and now.

Parker had been acting for years (Square Pegs, L.A. Story, The First Wives Club) before she landed the role that catapulted her to superstardom: cosmopolitan-drinking, hopeless romantic Carrie Bradshaw on the groundbreaking HBO show Sex and the City (SATC), which debuted in 1998.

In addition to reprising the iconic character in numerous spin-offs — 2008's Sex in the City film, its Sex in the City 2 (2010) sequel and Max's And Just Like That... series in 2021 — Parker has been busy working on other projects.

She went on to star in films, including 2005's The Family Stone and 2006's Failure to Launch, and appeared on three episodes of FOX's Glee in 2012, her first TV gig since SATC. Parker also returned to HBO when she starred as Frances Dufresne on the series Divorce from 2016 to 2019.

Outside of television, Parker formed her own production company, Pretty Matches, in 2005. She and her husband, Matthew Broderick, got married in 1997 and share three kids — twin daughters Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell and son James Wilkie Broderick.

Celebrated performers of both stage and screen, Broderick is a two-time Tony Award winner, and Parker is a two-time Emmy Award winner. In 2022, Parker and Broderick costarred in the Broadway revival of Neil Simon's Plaza Suite.

Since playing Samantha Jones on SATC and reprising her role in its film adaptations, Cattrall has remained on-screen.

Some of her notable movie credits include Crossroads (2002) and Ice Princess (2005), in addition to TV work such as Producing Parker, Sensitive Skin, How I Met Your Father and Tell Me a Story.

Outside of acting, Cattrall has written two booksSexual Intelligence in 2005 and Being a Girl in 2006.

Cattrall starred in and executive produced Fox's 2020 drama Filthy Rich. She did not reprise her SATC role of Samantha Jones in 2021's And Just Like That... and had priorly expressed that she felt her time with franchise had come to a natural end following the second film. But in June 2023, news broke that she'd be returning to AJLT in season 2 with a surprise season-ending cameo.

Cattrall has been dating Russell Thomas, an employee of BBC, since 2016.

In addition to reprising her role as Charlotte York in its film adaptations and Max's And Just Like That…, Davis has nabbed numerous parts on the screen and the stage since the series wrapped in 2004.

During the 2000s, Davis voiced the leading role of Miss Spider in the animated kid's series Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends from 2004 to 2008, and in 2013, she guest appeared on Project Runway.

Some of her film titles include The Shaggy Dog (2006) and Couples Retreat (2009), as well as Holiday in the Wild (2019), which helped highlight her work in the field of elephant conservation. Davis has also worked extensively with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to address female sexual violence in Congo.

Davis made her Broadway debut in 2012's The Best Man revival opposite James Earl Jones and John Stamos.

Outside of acting, Davis is the mom of two children through adoption: daughter Gemma Rose and son Wilson.

Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes

Since playing Miranda Hobbes on SATC and reprising her Emmy Award-winning role in its film adaptations and Max spin-off, Nixon has racked up a number of accolades for her critically acclaimed work on the screen and stage.

In 2006, she won the Tony Award for best actress in a play for her role in Rabbit Hole and another in 2017 for The Little Foxes. In 2008, her part in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit won her an Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a drama series. She also won a Grammy Award for best spoken word album for her work on Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth in 2009.

Nixon ran for governor of New York as a Democrat in 2018 but lost to Andrew Cuomo. She has also been a longtime activist, particularly for LGBTQ rights.

In 2021, Nixon married education activist Christine Marinoni; they welcomed their son Max together in 2011. Nixon is also the mother to Seph and Charles with ex-husband Danny Mozes.

Since 2022, Nixon has appeared as Ada Brook in HBO's post-Civil War society drama, The Gilded Age.

Chris Noth as Mr. Big

Since his portrayal of Mr. Big on SATC, Noth has held a number of roles outside of that of Carrie Bradshaw's husband in the Sex and the City films and spin-off series. Before SATC, Noth playedMike Logan on Law & Order and reprised his role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent from 2005 to 2008.

Noth then held a recurring role as Peter Florrick on 2009's The Good Wife and was nominated for a Golden Globe for his work on the show. Noth also appeared on the 2021 revival of The Equalizer on CBS.

Shortly after Noth's Sex and the City character, Mr. Big died onscreen in December 2021, Noth was accused of sexual assault by multiple women, which he denies. As a result of the accusations, Noth's character was written out of the finale of And Just Like That..., as well as out of The Equalizer.

Noth and his wife Tara Wilson share two sons, Orion Christopher, born in 2008, and Keats, born in 2020.

John Corbett as Aidan Shaw

Since playing Aidan Shaw on SATC, Corbett has held several long-lasting roles outside the franchise.

He played Max Gregson on United States of Tara from 2009 to 2011 and Seth Holt on Parenthood from 2011 to 2015. Other notable titles include The Messenger (2007), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and its 2016 sequel. Corbett also costarred alongside lead Lana Condor in the To All the Boys I've Loved Before franchise playing her dad, Dr. Daniel Covey.

Though he teased that he would participate in And Just Like That..., his character never appeared in season 1, and Sarah Jessica Parker said he apologized for confusing fans. Aidan is back for season 2, though, as Parker shared pictures of her and Corbett smooching in character on set.

In addition to acting, Corbett has pursued a country music career and released two studio albums: John Corbett in 2006 and Leaving Nothin' Behind in 2013.

Corbett is married to actress Bo Derek — whom he met in 2002 and wed in 2020. They live together on a ranch in Santa Ynez, California.

Handler has held several roles since playing Harry Goldenblatt in SATC, the films and spin-off series, and pursued other ventures outside of acting.

After SATC wrapped in 2004, Handler had a longtime role as Charlie Runkle on the comedy series Californication from 2007 to 2014. He starred as Eastern District US Attorney Jacob Warner in Starz's drama Power in 2020.

Handler is a contributing news writer at The Huffington Post and has written two books, including 2008's It's Only Temporary...The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive, which addresses his experience with acute myeloid leukemia.

He's also the father of daughter Sofia Clementina — whom he welcomed with his wife Elisa Atti, a chemist, in 2007.

David Eigenberg as Steve Brady

Eigenberg has racked up various TV and movie credits since playing Steve Brady on SATC. Aside from reprising his role in its film adaptations and spin-off series, the actor has played Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann on NBC's Chicago Fire since 2012.

The actor shared that he's experiencing hearing loss, which inspired the And Just Like That… writers to make his character, Steve Brady, partially deaf.

Eigenberg and his wife Chrysti share a son Louie Steven, born in 2009, and a daughter Myrna Belle, born in 2014.

Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch

In addition to playing Stanford Blatch on SATC and its spinoffs, Garson acted as Mozzie in White Collar from 2009 until 2014. Other TV appearances included Hawaii Five-0 and Whole Day Down and films such as Zoom (2006) and Walk of Shame (2014). Garson was a regular guest on the 25 Words or Less game show in 2019 and 2020.

Garson welcomed his son, Nathen, through adoption in 2009. Sadly, the actor died from pancreatic cancer on Sept. 21, 2021 at age 57. Many of his SATC castmates paid tribute to Garson by sharing precious memories following his death.

Lewis played Cattrall's model boyfriend, Smith Jerrod, on SATC and its sequel films. Despite not reprising his role in the And Just Like That… spin-off, he's guest appeared in several titles since, such as How I Met Your Mother and House. He picked up recurring roles on Brothers & Sisters in 2007 and 2009 and later starred on NBC's Midnight Texas from 2017 until 2018.

In 2022, Lewis was announced as a contestant on season 31 of Dancing with the Stars. He was eliminated during the first week after finishing in last place.

In 2020, the actor got engaged to actress Liz Godwin.
