'Sex and the City 3' not happening, Sarah Jessica Parker says

The third Sex and the City movie has been shelved, according to star Sarah Jessica Parker.

“It’s over,” the actress said in an interview with Extra on Thursday. “We’re not doing it.”

Sex and the City 2 was released in 2010 to decidedly less fanfare than the first installment — which was a bonafide hit, earning $415.3 million worldwide.  There has since been much speculation that a third movie remained a possibility. Parker said on Thursday that the project got at least as far as a script, adding that she was “disappointed” it wouldn’t be moving forward.

“We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story,” she said. “It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

Parker’s comments follow a Daily Mailreport on Thursday which cited unnamed sources who said the project was about to begin shooting, and that it was derailed by demands from star Kim Cattrall.

“The studio can no longer move ahead as Cattrall, 61, demanded they produce other movies she had in development or she wouldn’t sign up for the project,” the Daily Mail wrote.

Cattrall later denied the report on Twitter, clarifying that she never had any interest in a third film to begin with. “The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016,” she wrote.
