‘Severance’ Season 2 Returns to Production After Strike Delay: ‘Back to Work’

“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.

Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

On Monday, Apple TV+ released a black-and-white photo of star Adam Scott running through an illuminated hallway, which seems like the Lumon offices. Executive producer Ben Stiller commented, “Back to work.”

“Severance” follows Mark Scout (Scott), the leader of a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a “severance” procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. The experiment in work-life balance is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that forces him to confront the true nature of his work and self. The cast also includes Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, Tramell Tillman, Christopher Walken, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus and Dichen Lachman.

The series hails from creator Dan Erickson and director Stiller. Aoife McArdle also directs. Erickson, Mark Friedman, Chris Black, John Cameron and Andrew Colville serve as executive producers alongside Stiller, Nicky Weinstock and Jackie Cohn on behalf of Red Hour Productions. Arquette and Scott also produce. Fifth Season is the studio.

Season 1 of “Severance” premiered on Apple TV+ in 2022 and was nominated for 14 Emmys — including outstanding drama series and lead actor — and won two for main title design and music composition.
