Several Injured in Los Angeles Explosion During Illegal Fireworks Seizure

Several people were injured during an explosion on June 30 after police attempted to safely detonate illegal fireworks that were seized in Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, “bomb squad officers were in the process of seizing over 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks”, some of which were being stored in a “Bomb Squad trailer” when it exploded.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said nine people were injured following the explosion, though their conditions were unknown.

“The police also told us it would be a small boom and nothing big,” she said. “As we waited to hear the small boom the whole truck blew up.” Credit: @alyssaacasillas via Storyful
