Creative Artists Agency is shuttering multiple domestic locations through the end of the year, as coronavirus cases explode in the United States, Variety has learned.

A late-hitting internal memo to staff informed agents and others that the CAA headquarters in Los Angeles, as well as offices in Nashville and New York, will remain closed as the pandemic surges.

“In carefully studying a wide range of factors, with employee health and safety as a top priority, we have concluded we will not be returning … until at least January 2021. It is too early to provide a specific date,” read the memo, obtained by Variety.

The company will also be watching and waiting on re-entry protocols for their London office. CAA”s headquarters in Los Angeles, affectionately referred to as the “Death Star,” sits in Century City and is an oft-conjured image in depicting Hollywood’s rooms of power.

Numerous factors went into the decision, from childcare concerns to the cost of cleaning supplies, the memo said.

“In evaluating today’s decision, a large group of internal executives, plus outside consultants, have focused on many criteria, including health authority guidelines; local laws and infection rates; availability, or lack thereof, of testing, vaccines, and treatments; the range of personal circumstances for our employees; … availability and cost of cleaning supplies, masks, and facility modifications; and, of course, our ability to best support and work with one another as we serve clients,” wrote senior leadership.

The agency had no immediate comment on the matter.

The news comes as tension rises over the spread of COVID-19 in California, whose daily diagnosis rate continues to escalate. Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered the closing of beaches along the coast, a rollback for dine-in restaurants and a ban on gatherings of people who don’t live in the same household.
