Seth Rogen Pranks Unsuspecting Shoppers in New 'Sausage Party' Promo

In this weekend’s Sausage Party, Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, and a host of other funny people (including Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, and Craig Robinson, to name just a few) give voice to animated food characters in a store who think the shoppers who choose them off the shelf are taking them to paradise — and then, upon learning their true fate is to be cooked, chomped, swallowed, and forgotten, revolt against the humans who would devour them. It’s a raunchy R-rated animated affair (thus putting it in illustrious company), and to inaugurate its release and reinforce its premise, Rogen snuck out to a real N.Y. grocery to play some pranks on those who would dare to eat his tasty friends for a new promo clip from Sony (watch it above).

Rogen’s contentious cantaloupe mocks a trio of teens for having names that make them sound like a boy band, while his sausage gets into a protracted argument with a guy about cannibalism and the nature of reality — weighty topics in tune with Sausage Party’s own ludicrous fascination with questions about the existence of God and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Rogen’s cantaloupe also makes sure to let people know that, while it’s not kosher to eat most foods, it’s fine if you want to chomp on some grapes, because — well, because they’re [redacted for politeness’ sake].

Suffice it to say, Sausage Party is not to be confused with your average Disney affair, regardless of Rogen and company’s recent confession that they were inspired by Pixar. This latest bit of promotional comedy will no doubt whet moviegoers’ appetite for the outrageous film, in theaters now.
