Seth Rogen Pledges Fealty to ‘Dame Donna Langley’ Under Universal Pictures First-Look Deal

Seth Rogen and his Point Grey Pictures are pledging their fealty to “Dame Donna Langley” (yes, she is quite literally a Dame), cheekily agreeing to be knights in service of Langley’s kingdom at Universal Pictures.

The production company has signed a first-look film deal with the studio, expanding an existing relationship that brought us the “Neighbors” films, “Good Boys,” and “Blockers.” No specific projects were announced to be in development currently.

“Becoming newly anointed knights in the kingdom of Dame Donna Langley is an honour and privilege we do not take lightly,” Rogen, Goldberg and Weaver said in a statement — note the British “u.” “We pledge to win grand box office battles alongside Peter Cramer, Erik Baiers and the rest of our partners at Universal, and shall duly make the Universal coffers overfloweth.”

“Seth, Evan and James have developed a filmmaking brand entirely their own,” said Langley, the chairman of NBCUniversal Studio Group and its chief content officer.  “Whether we’re watching their stories of teenage turtles, anthropomorphic groceries, or foul mouthed sixth graders making epically bad decisions, they always manage to blend Point Grey’s signature edgy humor with humanity and heart.”

Langley was named a Dame Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth in 2020. Her medal presentation had a wait a few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Point Grey is riding the success of the animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” for Paramount, which made $181 million at the global box office. The company has also made two spinoffs of the hit Amazon series “The Boys,” including “The Boys: Gen V” and the recently announced “The Boys: Mexico.” The company’s films collectively have made over $1 billion at the global box office.

Langley is collecting deals with auteur filmmakers like they’re Pokémon (a nerdy analogy we hope the Point Grey guys would approve of). Universal has arrangements with “Everything Everywhere All at Once” duo the Daniels and another with Jordan Peele. Langley is tight Steven Spielberg (his Amblin has a first-look deal at Universal) and was all smiles at the Golden Globes when Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” cleaned up.

UTA and law firm Felker Toczek negotiated the deal on behalf of Point Grey Pictures.
