Seth Meyers compares Trump to '90s sitcom dad over Trumpcare fail

On Monday night, the late-night hosts returned to work, all armed with plenty of material to roast Donald Trump over the failure of his health care bill.

In the latest edition of A Closer Look, Seth Meyers wasn’t on board with Trump defenders saying he couldn’t be expected to understand the system’ so quickly, specifically because of how boastful the president had been about his knowledge.

Meyers showed a clip from Trump’s nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, where he said, “No one knows the system better than me,” ending with a smug smirk.

“Look at that face,” laughed Meyers. “That’s like the freeze frame of a ’90s sitcom dad at the end of an episode. You almost expect credits to roll.”

And that’s exactly what happened, with the sitcom coming courtesy of Spicer Conway Productions and a spoof on a classic production company tagline.

Late Night airs on NBC at 12:35 a.m. ET.
