Seth Meyers Takes A Closer Look At How Donald Trump Is Losing The Government Shutdown Fight

Seth Meyers believes it’s becoming clear that President Donald Trump has no way out of the government shutdown he claimed as his own last month and now has boxed himself into. The Saturday Night Live alum — Meyers, not Trump — took “A Closer Look” at the national mess on his NBC late-night show tonight. Watch the video below.

He begins by showing a clip of attorney general candidate William Barr at his Senate confirmation saying “it takes two to tango” regarding who is perpetuating the longest government closure in U.S. history. Meyers then tacitly compares POTUS’ actions to an old Los del Rio earworm — or maybe an older Billy Idol hit.

From there we get a flurry of pop culture references/jokes about Fox News, Conor McGregor, Chuck E. Cheese, Popeye, Tinder, Shaquille O’Neal, Bugs Bunny — all interspersed with on-the-record pearls of idiocy by America’s whatever in chief.

If indeed Trump is destined to be a one-term president — or less — late-night comedy shows hosts had better be prepared to find something as knee-slappingly rich as the nightly nuggets supplied to them by the man they love to hate. Yeah, good luck with that.
