Seth Meyers sees dark path for Elmo due to Trump’s proposed cut to national arts

Donald Trump’s planned cuts to the national arts could send Elmo down a dark path, according to Seth Meyers.

On Thursday’s Late Night, Meyers addressed the effect such a decision could have on Sesame Street and its No. 1 Adele fan.

“President Trump’s proposed budget would cut funding for public broadcasting, which may explain why Elmo’s turning tickles on the street now,” said Meyers, before launching into his Elmo voice. “‘Tickle me?'”

Earlier in the day, Sesame Workshop released a statement in support of federal funding for public broadcasting. Meanwhile, comedian Billy Eichner reached out to the president’s daughter on Twitter, writing, “@IvankaTrump Hello dear – at what point will u be telling ur children that your father killed Snuffleupagus?”
