Seth Meyers Recounts Hilarious Story of Son’s Birth

There is officially a baby on board. Seth Meyers and his wife, Alexi, gave birth to their son, Ashe Olsen Meyers, on Sunday. After sitting out Monday, Meyers recounted the story on Tuesday’s Late Night. “My wife about every 10 to 12 minutes would say her back hurt,” Meyers recalled. “And I would go, you know, rub her back. And I’m bad at recognizing patterns or else I would have known that those were contractions.” Their ride over to the hospital was an experience for their Uber driver, Tariq. “I could tell from the expression on our Uber driver’s face that this was the first time that he was doing anything like this,” Meyers said, “because when you’re an Uber driver and you see this, what we were is the opposite of jackpot.”

It being Easter, Meyers was slightly unprepared for the holiday spirit at the hospital. “Every nurse was wearing bunny ears, which was fantastic,” Meyers said. “It just immediately put me in the best mood. It did not affect my wife’s mood. My wife was at a place where bunny ears could not change her mood. I even said, ‘Look, bunny ears!’ And she was like, ‘Shut the f**k up. I don’t — stop pointing.’”

Alexi gave birth without pain medication and without incident. The baby’s name, Ashe Olson, is a combination of Alexi’s maiden name and Meyers’s mother’s maiden name. Meyers went on to thank the doctors, Tariq, and his wife for all their efforts in the process. And he even got a special gift from his guest that night, former SNL cohort Tracy Morgan.
