Seth Meyers’ ‘Making a Murderer’ Parody Is Great

A late entry into the crowded field of superb television series in 2015, the original Netflix docuseries Making A Murderer, has become a bona fide hit and popular conversation topic. Clearly, the staff at Late Night with Seth Meyers can be included among the fans of the show as they marked their return from their holiday hiatus with a spot-on parody of the show’s many fascinating yet banal telephone calls.

Throughout several episodes, phone calls from two of the documentary’s key subjects, Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are made to various family members and friends, and they usually carry the same glacial pace. On face level, they’re boring, but within the show, they’re engrossing. On Late Night, a phone call is made from a staff member at 30 Rockefeller Center to Seth Meyers explaining to him he has “gotta come back.” After some reluctance, Meyers agrees to, but is put off from the show’s airtime of 12:35 because, “God, that’s late.”
