Seth Meyers On Lewd Tape Fallout: Higher Standard To Be ‘Today’ Host Than To Be GOP Nom

Seth Meyers kicked off Late Night’s week of broadcasts from Washington, D.C., with a closer look at the Trump Train’s head-on collision with NBC’s Access Hollywood Bus.

Going into Sunday’s debate, Trump’s campaign was in crisis, Meyers told his Warner Theatre crowd. It was precipitated by Friday’s release of 2005 footage in which Trump, on an Access Hollywood bus, boasted to show host Billy Bush that he’s so famous he can kiss women and grab their genitals with impunity.

“So a man who is this close to the highest office in the land, now occupies the lowest office in the land: the pervert on the bus,” Meyers snarked. “Let’s not forget that Donald Trump isn’t the only one being disgusting on this tape. There’s also Billy Bush, who somehow passed Jeb as Worst Performing Bush in 2016.”

He added: “It should be noted NBC suspended Billy Bush from the Today show for his words on this tape,” Meyers said. “Which means there is currently a higher standard for host of the third hour of the Today show than there is for a Republican nominee for president.”

Meyers moved on to mention House Speaker Paul Ryan has said he will not defend Trump, nor will he campaign with him, but has stopped short of pulling his endorsement.

“Paul Ryan is so spineless at this point they carry him to and from events in a bucket,” the Late Night host said.
