Where do you stand on movie theaters that serve meals and alcohol?

As the theatrical movie experience has changed over the years, theater chains like Alamo Drafthouse have grown popular for offering moviegoers full meals and alcoholic beverages for purchase during the film. Major chains like AMC Theaters are now offering the same at dozens of locations across the United States — but not everyone loves crossing the moviegoing experience with that of a restaurant.

Actor and comedian Danny McBride recently told GQ in an interview that he is not fond of trendy theaters that serve meals and drinks. “I hate it, I can’t stand it," he told the outlet. “I also don’t think it makes sense to combine booze with movies. You’re going to have to piss."

"Doesn’t alcohol make you want to get up and get loose? You don’t want to sit there, drink beer, and just be quiet," he added. “I would have no interest in going to see a movie and just pounding IPAs. Just f------ falling asleep."

Back in August, PEOPLE spoke with etiquette expert Jacqueline Whitmore to get her take on movie theater etiquette as movies like Barbie and Oppenheimer broke box office records and brought significant interest to theater chains. While food and drinks did not come up in the conversation, Whitmore spoke to electronic distractions that more commonly present challenges in the theater.

"One of the biggest distractions is electronics. The light from a cell phone is really, really distracting," she said at the time. "So I would highly recommend that people put away their electronic devices and make sure they're on silent mode."

"Don't put your feet on the seats in front of you, and arrive before the movie begins," Whitmore, who also noted patrons should always "clean up after yourselves" after a film ends, told PEOPLE at the time. "When the movie begins, everybody should be in their seat, situated, quiet, ready to go and ready to enjoy the movie."

McBride, best known for his roles in movies like Pineapple Express, This Is The End and television series like The Righteous Gemstones, suggested to GQ that movie theaters and cannabis may prove a better pairing than theaters and alcohol.

The two “go together f------ perfectly," he told the outlet, remembering that he and his Halloween series collaborator David Gordon Green once considered opening a theater with a built-in dispensary.

“If I went to a theater, and it was like, ‘Here’s your popcorn and here’s f------ weed,’ I feel like that would be an awesome little combo right there,” he said.
