A New Series About The Strange Saga Of Alex Murdaugh Is Coming To Oxygen

The Murdaugh name was once associated with a legal dynasty in the South Carolina Lowcountry — three generations of the family were named solicitor in the state's 14th circuit district. But a series of untimely deaths, accusations of financial impropriety, and an alleged assisted suicide insurance fraud scheme have thrust the Murdaugh name into the national spotlight.

The accusations against Alex Murdaugh — who authorities say paid someone to shoot him in the head so his son could receive a $10 million life insurance payout — as well as as well as the murders of Alex's wife, Maggie, and son Paul, will be explored in a new Oxygen special “Alex Murdaugh: Death. Deception. Power.” The upcoming show will also look at other incidents tied to the Murdaugh family, including a boating accident that killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach in 2019 and the death of the family's housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, in their home in 2018.

Troy Roberts, an award-winning network news journalist, has been on the ground in South Carolina investigating this case over the last several months. His work will be included in “Alex Murdaugh: Death. Deception. Power.," which premieres Sunday, December 12 at 8/7c. Matt Harris and Seton Tucker, the hosts of the podcast “Murdaugh Family Murders: Impact of Influence" will also contribute to the upcoming series.

The new Oxygen special was unveiled during a panel discussion at "CrimeCon at Home: Holiday Escape," which aired Friday night.

CrimeCon at Home is produced by Red Seat Ventures and presented by Oxygen.
