The only thing Sergio Pérez loves more than racing is his wife, Carola Martinez, and their beautiful family.

Both Pérez and Martinez were born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico; however, the pair didn’t meet until they were in their twenties. Despite Pérez being a public figure, their relationship has remained largely out of the spotlight. In fact, it wasn’t until Martinez became pregnant with their first child that they went public with their romance.

In Dec. 2017, they became first-time parents with the birth of son Sergio Jr. Since then, the couple have gotten married and welcomed another son and two daughters. Their oldest kids, Sergio Jr. and daughter Carlota, sometimes make rare cameos at their dad’s Formula 1 racing competitions or on their mom’s Instagram page.

Since signing with Red Bull Racing in 2021, Pérez’s racing career has taken off exponentially — albeit, the one constant through it all has been Martinez. Speaking candidly with Dutch newspaper De Limburger, Pérez admitted he struggles with keeping work from bleeding into his time at home with his family.

"Formula 1 is my sport, my life, my passion. But when you are having such a hard time at work, it is difficult to be cheerful at home with your wife and children,” he told the outlet, per Sports Illustrated’s Fan Nation.

Family time is of the utmost importance for Pérez, who recently hired a mental health coach to help navigate the pressure and expectations that come with F1. For Pérez, having a clear mind means he can better allot his time and energy to his family.

“That's why I hired a mental coach because my family deserves to have that cheerful father at home," he explained.

So who is Sergio Pérez’s wife? Here's everything to know about Carola Martinez and her relationship with the Formula 1 driver.

The pair tied the knot in June 2018 shortly after welcoming their first son, Sergio Jr. At the time, Pérez was racing for Force India, having left McLaren four years prior. He was also just two years away from winning the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, which hadn’t been done by a Mexican racer in 50 years, per his Red Bull Racing bio.

The couple have welcomed four children together. Their oldest, son Sergio Jr., was born on Dec. 21, 2017, followed by the birth of their daughter, Carlota, on Sept. 15, 2019. The family of four grew once more in May 2022 with the addition of son Emilio. In Sept. 2023, Pérez revealed they had welcomed another daughter, whose name has yet to be made public.

“Checo & Carola have welcomed their newborn daughter a few days ago!” Red Bull Racing announced on X at the time. “Mom and babygirl are fine and in good health, settled at home as per Checo's words at a Ford Mexico Q&A this Thursday.”

In a snap shared by Red Bull Racing, Martinez is seen cradling her newborn close to her chest.

“Congratulations to the Pérez-Martínez family!” the account added.

They're supportive of their kids pursuing a career in racing

Pérez is very familiar with the highs and lows of Formula 1. But despite even the lesser appealing qualities of the sport, Pérez said he would be supportive and overjoyed if his children decide to pursue a career path similar to his.

“I would love for [them] to be close to sports because it is a way to be away from the vices and bad things in the world,” Pérez said during a Fox Sports interview. "Have that discipline from early on, and if you don't end up being an athlete, that will help you in business and in many things because the discipline that sports gives you, nothing gives you."

Pérez is more than a decade into his career as an F1 driver, but that doesn’t mean leaving home for long stretches of time has become any easier. Speaking with the press following the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix, Pérez candidly opened up about the struggles that come with being a pro athlete and dad — noting that even during the off-season, being a race driver is still a full-time job.

"Every time you go away, you think about every goodbye you say to your kids," Pérez told reporters, per RacingNews365.com. "It's hard. It's a sport that takes everything out of you, out of your personal life. You basically don't have much of a personal life, because you are always working.”

Pérez added that even when he does get a break from the racetrack and can spend quality time at home, he’s still paying attention to what he’s eating and his training regimen.

“[It’s] the same when you are with your kids,” he concluded.

Martinez is her husband’s biggest fan and can often be spotted cheering him on from the sidelines — sometimes alongside their kids, too. In 2023, Martinez attended several Grand Prix competitions that took place all across the globe, including Austria, Abu Dhabi, Portugal and Styria to name a few.

Martinez was joined by her two older kids, Sergio Jr. and Carlota, at the 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix, in which Pérez came in third place. The family was all smiles when they were finally able to reunite on the track after Pérez was crowned third runner-up.

The couple live relatively private lives, though that hasn't stopped them from stepping into the spotlight from time to time. In December 2022, Martinez accompanied Pérez to the FIA Prize Giving gala in Bologna, Italy, where the F1 athlete was recognized for winning third in the World Cup.

“3rd in the World Cup! I could not be more proud of you!!!!!. Let's go for much more!!” Martinez said on Instagram alongside photos from the night.

They attended the gala in 2023 as well, where Pérez was once again honored for his major accomplishments. Martinez commemorated the special moment on Instagram, praising her husband for being a living example of what it means to never give up.

“You are a clear example of never giving up until you achieve your dreams! 2nd in the championship 🤩🙏,” she captioned the post.
