Manchester City’s quest for a quadruple is dead. The Premier League leaders lost at third-division Wigan Athletic on Monday in the fifth round of the FA Cup. It was a shocking upset.

And apparently, City was peeved about it.

Or at least Sergio Aguero was. Aguero nearly got into a fight with a Wigan fan who had rushed the field after his team’s dramatic win:

Video showed Aguero and the fan appearing to shove each other simultaneously. Aguero then looked to go back at the fan.

Video and photos then showed the Argentine forward being restrained by a Wigan player and a member of Man City’s staff.

Fans of lower league clubs often rush the field without incident after big cup upsets like Monday’s. But it’s always a somewhat dangerous situation. There’s no way to know what the fan might have done or said to provoke the incident. It’s therefore misguided to jump to conclusions and blame Aguero.

It’s unclear whether City’s all-time leading goal scorer could face disciplinary action as a result of the incident.

More information to come as it becomes available.
