Leave it to Serena Williams to make her outfit at the 2019 US Open as much of a headline-maker as her performance.

The Grand Slam athlete defeated Maria Sharapova in a heated match that marked her 19th consecutive win against the Russian athlete, but it wasn't just her victory that caught our attention. Williams took the US Open court for the first time this tournament in a short black bodysuit that once again proved her daring style.

As HuffPost points out, it looks like a spinoff of the "Wakanda-inspired catsuit" she wore, and later was banned from wearing, at the 2018 French Open. Nonetheless, Monday evening's Nike outfit drew quite the applause from Twitter.

"Serena Williams is owning that court all while rocking that outfit," wrote one Twitter user. "She’s an icon in every way," said another.

The 37-year-old icon and mom-of-one regularly makes headlines for her sartorial choices, both on and off the courts. Her last US Open outfits consisted of tutus and fishnet stockings.
