Serena Williams says she donated her breast milk to mothers in need and joked that they would be getting "some super soldier milk."

Williams has two daughters with her husband, Alexis Ohanian: Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., who was born in September 2017, and Adira River Ohanian, who was born in August this year.

In a recent Instagram reel, the tennis icon, 42, showed a freezer full of breast milk she had brought on a trip to New York.

"After going through a screening I was able to donate it instead of taking the milk home," Williams wrote in the caption. "I know so many amazing women that adopt or are unable to make milk."

After a formula shortage hit the US last year, breast milk banks are a way hospitals can supply new mothers with food for their babies.

Williams said donating hers "felt amazing."

"BTW," she added. "Someone out there is getting some super soldier milk."

In the video, she said she was "really excited" to be able to provide breast milk "to people who really need it."

"It'll be anonymous," she added. "But super excited to just help in some way."

People praised Williams in the comments for donating her "liquid gold," with some saying adult athletes would probably pay good money for it.

"That's G.O.A.T. Milk!" one follower wrote, using a slang term that stands for "greatest of all time."

Another joked: "Some kid's backhand just got stronger."

Some also shared their own experiences using breast milk banks.

"My baby is adopted and ended up having severe dairy allergies, so we relied on donor milk," one follower said. "It was such a gift to us and I'm always so grateful when I think about it!"
