Serena Williams may be one of the most accomplished athletes of all time, but here’s one aspect of her life many of us can relate to: While Williams always longed to be a mother, she didn’t always know if having children was in the cards for her.

The tennis star, who welcomed daughter Olympia with husband Alexis Ohanian in 2017, opened up about this sentiment during a recent interview — and her reasoning behind it? Well, it’s pretty relatable.

“Becoming a mom is something that I’ve always wanted to do, but I was getting older and [it was] not really going to happen,” Williams said, Us Weekly reports. “I love being her mom, and it’s such a great feeling. For me, she’s the best thing that’s happened to me and I’ve had so many amazing things happen to me, so … that’s really saying a lot.”

Williams, who became a mother at 35, has done so much in her life — but she, like many successful women, struggled with the feeling that she was running against a biological clock. After posing nude for the cover of Vanity Fair during her pregnancy and going through a terrifying delivery (Williams had near-fatal complications when she gave birth), Williams is incredibly proud of her role as a mom. She even calls the past two years of motherhood her “greatest accomplishment” in a recent Instagram post — and coming from the tennis legend, that’s saying a lot.

“I feel definitely evolved, but the other day we were at dinner and I’m like, ‘How am I a mom?! How did that happen?’ I remember being pregnant but it feels like a lifetime ago,” Us Weekly reports. “I was just like hanging out with my friends, and I was like, ‘I’m a mom! It’s weird!’ “
