Fortunately for lunar lovers, another extraterrestrial event is taking place this month, thanks to the new moon that peaks at 6:39 p.m. local time on Sept. 14, 2023.

With every full moon, there's a corresponding new moon — the phase that marks the beginning of every lunar cycle. New moons often take place once a month since the moon typically takes around 29.5 days to orbit the Earth, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

In contrast to full moon appearances — which can often be breathtaking sights to see, especially when supermoon phenomenons occur — new moons blend in with the dark night sky.

This is because the moon is in the phase that is not being illuminated by the Sun. However, despite its blacked-out appearance, new moons have just as much astronomical meaning in the cosmic world.

"They open a cosmic door that had been previously closed to you depending upon where they land for your Rising and Sun signs," astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE exclusively of new moons, which he says "not only brings something fresh and new to your life," but "gives you the chance to use its energy consciously as you seek to build new patterns and plans that will echo out for six months to a year."

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

This new moon will have you taking on more projects from your employer, Aries. Thomas says the energy from this lunar phase will have you "quite busy," but the time is now to hone in on your "work-life balance."

In contrast, however, Thomas says to "apply yourself now" if "you'd like to find a better job." In addition to emphasizing employment, he says to "seize" the opportunity to "improve your physical health."

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Romance is in the air, Taurus. Thomas says this new moon "will be like a flame of desire and love" whether you're in a relationship or not. "If single, be sure to put yourself out there," he says. "If committed, use this time to reignite your spark."

In addition to love, this lunar phase can impact other areas of your life. "If you’d like to pursue creative endeavors, hobbies or fertility matters," Thomas says "the stars are now aligned."

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Home is where the heart is, Gemini. Thomas says this new moon "will be encouraging you to focus on domestic, home or family matters." Therefore, you should place your focus on improving your living space.

Some of Thomas' suggestions include "cleaning, renovating or redecoration." Furthermore, if you're considering a move or getting involved in real estate, he says "use the time now."

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Let the ideas flow, Cancer! Thomas says this new moon will "activate your mental capacity," therefore causing you to feel eager to announce your vision, plans and ideas to the world." As a result, he says "you may now begin working on an important writing, speaking, branding or communications-related project."

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

Money on the mind, Leo? Thomas predicts "more of it could suddenly be coming your way" thanks to September's new moon that "highlights your finances." As a result, he says "you could hear of a new job offer, side hustle or raise to increase your income."

A bonus? "Fabulous new possessions may also cross your path," Thomas reveals.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

This lunation is for you, Virgo! With this new moon energizing your zodiac sign, Thomas says "you could feel like you’ve suddenly felt a rush of new potential." Therefore, he suggests you "use this time to step into the spotlight and demand what you wish from the universe."

Thomas adds, "Opportunities to reach your goals will appear."

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

Rest and recharge, Libra. In doing so, Thomas says "you'll generate brilliant and creative ideas about how you can improve your life in the year to come." This lunation "may also put you in touch with a therapist, counselor or medical professional," he adds.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

All eyes on you, Scorpio! This new moon could have you feeling "even more attention than usual," so use it to your advantage.

"Your popularity will be on it’s A-game, so network and spend time to your heart’s content," advices Thomas. "This is also a great period to ask for a favor or try your hand at online dating."

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Concentrate on your career, Sagittarius, because things are looking favorable for you during this lunar phase. In fact, Thomas says "you will likely see opportunities for competitive job offers, a promotion or favorable awards or press."

Therefore, he suggests you "use this period to strategize to your goals and see how far you can climb." Shoot for the stars!

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

Step outside your comfort zone, Capricorn, you got this! As the new moon arrives, Thomas predicts "you will have an opportunity to soar into new territory physically, spiritually or intellectually."

Act on it! "Plan some long-distance travel, enroll in a course of study or polish off that book you’ve been hoping to write," puts forth Thomas.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Focus on your finances, Aquarius. Thomas says this lunation will give you the chance to prioritize your assets or investments. "If you have an opportunity for a settlement or royalty checks, this is the time to peer further," he suggests.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

Looking for that perfect pair? Thomas says this new moon will have "partnerships" at the "top of your mind now." As the lunar phase approaches, he notes that "union will present itself," impacting those who are coupled or not.

If single, Thomas says to "look for someone with long-term relationship potential." If committed, he suggests you "use this time to grow closer and commit even more deeply" — "dance with a twin flame," he says.
