Netflix is continuing its love affair with F1, adding to its expanding library of racing media with Senna, an upcoming new limited series inspired by the life of Ayrton Senna, known as the greatest Brazilian driver of all time.

The first teaser for the series depicts a recreation of Senna's victory at the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos. The race was famous for Senna spending much of it stuck in sixth gear. It also marked his first victory in his hometown of Sao Paulo.

It has everything you'd expect from an F1-adjacent project, with the stylish imagery of racing interspersed with more personal reflections from Senna's life. The camera gets up close and personal, combining the first-person perspective of Senna with those looking on as the race unfolds.

Senna will be six episodes long and will star Gabriel Leone in the titular role alongside Matt Mella, Johannes Heinrichs, Joe Hurst, Alice Wegmann, Camila Márdila, Christian Malheiros, Marco Ricca, Steven Mackintosh and more as we chart the trials and tribulations of the driver's life.

Netflix revealed that Senna will commence at the beginning of Senna's racing career and end with his tragic accident in Italy at the San Marino Grand Prix.

Vicente Amorim serves as showrunner and co-director, with Julia Rezende also co-directing. Caíque Martins Ferreira, Gabriel Lacerda, Manish Pandey, Ana Saito, Pablo Torrecillas and Viviane Zangrossi executive produce, with Gullane - one of the largest producers and promoters in the Brazilian film and TV market - producing, with the support of Senna Brands and the driver's family.

An exact release date is yet to be announced, but the limited series will land on Netflix in 2024.
