Senior Dog Who Spent 11 Years in Alabama Shelter Continues Her Search for a Home in Wisconsin
After over a decade in a crowded shelter, the 13-year-old dog now has acres of land to explore — and fellow senior pets to enjoy it with!

Fiona, formerly Fergie, a rescue dog who has been searching for a home for over 11 yearsA senior dog is moving several states away to continue her search for a forever home.
After spending 11 years — nearly all of her life — at a shelter in southern Alabama, 13-year-old Fergie moved to Wisconsin with help from Second Chance Shelter, local outlets WECT and WMTV reported.
Through the organization, Wanda McGee and her husband bring dogs from overcrowded shelters in Alabama to Wisconsin, where "there are no strays." In Alabama, she told WMTV, "you see strays on every corner, just about."

For McGee, who has transported hundreds of dogs like Fergie through Second Chance, it's "definitely a work of love."
"You know, you don't make any money doing this for sure," she said, adding, "There's a world of difference."
Fergie arrived in Wisconsin on Saturday morning and moved into a foster home set up by Whitewater-based rescue Albert's Dog Lounge. She has also taken on a new name: Fiona.
It's been a long journey for the dog McGee first encountered when the canine was young.
"She came from animal control, and they had to trap her actually to catch her," McGee told WMTV. "She was about a year old when we got her, and she was pretty much feral."
"She's just recently started letting us pet her," she added.
Now, newly named Fiona is spending time with Lindsey Decker, the vice president of Albert's Dog Lounge, until she finds a permanent owner.
"It's a really joyful day for me to be able to bridge this gap between shelter and her hopeful forever home," Decker told WMTV. "Whether that's with me or whether we find her really amazing adopters while she's with me, which is our goal, it's a really joyful day."

In her temporary home, Fiona now has other senior dogs to hang out with and acres upon acres of yard to explore — a far cry from the shelter she spent over a decade of her life in.
As a Facebook post by Albert's Dog Lounge shared: "Fiona is taking in the new smells, roaming freely, feasting like a Queen, making doggy friends and staying cozy by the pellet stove with me while we look for the perfect FURever family for her."
