LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– Multi-instrumentalist Cheikh Ibra Fam rhythmically expresses a free and futuristic sound that intertwines with his Senegalese heritage, and he’s bringing all the African vibes to the Festival International de Louisiane stage.

Fam was a singer for Orchestra Baobab, a legendary Senegalese Afro-Cuban jazz band that is recognized as a 50-year-old monument. He spent four years with the group and created three local albums under the name “Freestyle,” giving him the opportunity to gain a reputation in Africa. Fam developed a proficiency in piano, violin, blues and jazz after studying at the L’Accademia Musicale di Treviglio in Milan, Italy for six years.

Cuba’s Orquesta Aragón and Dominican artist Johnny Pacheco were two musical influences for Fam, and when he developed an admiration for American artist Otis Redding, he discovered a passion for soul music.

The Senegalese artist composes Afro-pop music that also merges various genres, including reggae, hip hop, funk and ballads. Before moving away from Africa in 2019, Fam reflected on his music journey, and started understanding how he got to this point in life with wanting to breakout as an artist true to his own name. With a career spanning more than a decade, Fam shared his first international album  “Peace in Africa” with the world in Spring 2022, which combine his ancestral roots with modern melodies.
