Mary Bonnet is not only a rockstar real estate agent — she’s now an author, too.

The Selling Sunset star, 43, announced exclusively with PEOPLE that she has a memoir on the way. Selling Sunshine is set to be published this fall by Harper.

The new memoir from the Netflix reality show star will detail her life and career in luxury real estate, but also go beyond the “sunny personality” the agent is known for, per the book’s description. Bonnet will open up about the challenges she’s faced throughout her life, including paving her way after becoming a mother at age 16, and caring for her son while working and continuing her education. Bonnet also looks back on how growing up quickly equipped her to face later trials, including two divorces, toxic relationships and the unexpected effects of sudden fame.

Writing the book, Bonnet tells PEOPLE, was an emotional process, because it required her to look back on difficult moments she's experienced.

“Writing Selling Sunshine was a profound journey filled with a whirlwind of emotions,” Bonnet says. “Reliving my past and opening up about deeply personal experiences, ones I had never shared on TV or really with anyone, was incredibly challenging. Uncovering memories I had long tried to forget was painful, yet it was also an empowering and healing process.”

Selling Sunset fans can also look forward to Bonnet’s reflections on the show, which follows a group of agents at the Oppenheim Group, a high-end real estate firm in Los Angeles. Bonnet will provide glimpses into the “cast dynamics and drama” behind the scenes, as well as the lessons she’s learned from the show, whose seventh season aired in 2023.

Despite its hardships, Bonnet says that working on Selling Sunshine allowed her to share her story in her own words, and reflect on how she’s overcome past obstacles. The star hopes the same for readers, too.

“What sustained me through this emotional rollercoaster was the hope that my story might help even one person overcome their own obstacles and rise above them,” she continues. “It was vital for me to show how an ordinary girl from Indiana, who became a single teenage mom, could persevere and reach for her dreams. If I can do it, so can you.”
