Selena Gomez Reveals Dating in Hollywood, What She Looks For in a Partner

The 'Lose You to Love Me' singer, Selena Gomez, recently debuted her new album, Rare, and had the opportunity to sit down with Apple Music Beats 1 for an interview with Zane Lowe that covered hot topics across the spectrum.

In the interview, the former Disney star discussed everything from her journey of working through mental health issues to whom or what the lyrics of her new songs were about. She also explained what it's like to date other celebrities in Hollywood and what she looks for in a potential partner.

Gomez Dishes on Dating in Hollywood

When asked about the dating scene in Hollywood, Gomez's response was about as one could expect it, with the likes of everyone dating everyone, and the mere act itself, being simply a show, rather than actually meaning something more to the individuals in the relationship.

"If I can be honest, it is so cliché,” Gomez said of the dating scene in Tinseltown. “It’s just everyone dates everyone. It always seems to be within this little bubble — and it’s because it’s safe," she said.

Gomez continued, "You’re wanting someone to understand what you’re going through, you’re almost wanting a counterpart of creativity as well, and it’s interesting and fun. But the problem with that is that you end up, whether you admit it or not, you’re having a relationship for people and not even for yourself."

Is It For Us or Is It For Show?

Gomez shared that the relationships in Hollywood present some very blurred lines in the inherent purposes of them and whether they actually mean something to the people in the relationships. Essentially, is this for us or is it for the people and tabloids to speculate on for attention?

"There's almost this point where it’s like, ‘Oh, we’re making it known that we’re together," the pop star explained. "Or whatever it is. It's like, you just need to decide within our world if it’s for you or is it for show."

Ironically, this is something that shouldn't even be questioned as to the people who follow celebrities and high-profile A-listers know this all too well. Nonetheless, Gomez also shared the traits and characteristics that she looks for in a potential partner.

The Characteristics Gomez Looks For in a Partner

While Gomez has been linked to the likes of Justin Bieber and The Weeknd in the past, she does have certain characteristics that she looks for when it comes to potentially forming a romantic relationship. Back in December, she spoke with Capital FM and shared her thoughts on prospective suitors.

"I love genuine, you know? I feel like in the first five seconds, I can tell if I'm meeting someone that just wants one thing. And then I can tell when it's a good group of guys and they're cool," she explained to Capital FM. "I love funny. I don't like arrogant. I don't like show off-y. I love playful and adventurous, but really down to earth and cool."

To Gomez, it's also very important that people want to be with her for the right reasons and not just because of her name or the fame that's she's acquired over the years.

"I tend to like to be approached in a natural, organic way," she said. "And I hope that whoever is doing that is actually interested in me and not really my name. So, it's pretty hard, but that's usually the best way."
