A long-rumored Linda Ronstadt biopic has found its star in Selena Gomez.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Wednesday that the “Only Murders in the Building” actress will portray the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer in a forthcoming feature film based on the latter’s 2013 bestselling memoir, “Simple Dreams.”

Sources told TMZ that Ronstadt approved of the casting decision, and that Gomez met with her a few months ago at her home.

The movie is in pre-production stages, with James Keach and Ronstadt’s longtime manager John Boylan attached as co-producers. Keach previously produced the award-winning 2019 CNN Films documentary, “The Sound of My Voice.” Gomez will also reportedly executive produce the yet-to-be-titled project.

“Simple Dreams” is also the title of Ronstadt’s 1977 opus, which is considered the bestselling album of her career. The Grammy-nominated project yielded her cover of Buddy Holly’s “It’s So Easy” and her platinum-certified take on Roy Orbison’s “Blue Bayou.”

Ronstadt’s illustrious career spanned decades and multiple music genres before she retired from performing in 2011 and later revealed she was unable to sing due to progressive supranuclear palsy, an incurable degenerative disease.

The 77-year-old Tucson, Ariz. native has sung everything from rock and country music to Mexican folk songs and opera. Before launching her successful solo career, Ronstadt co-founded The Stone Poneys. The 11-time Grammy Award winner later formed the supergroup Trio — alongside Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris — to release collaborative country albums.

No slouch herself, 31-year-old Gomez can certainly hold a tune and garner a hit song.

The Texas-raised star scored a chart-topping album on the Billboard 200 chart with her 2013 debut “Stars Dance.” She followed that up with two other No. 1s — 2015’s “Revival” and 2020’s “Rare.”

Gomez was recently named TikTok’s most popular music artist of 2023.
