Her New Music

Selena Gomez has returned to the music scene after a two year hiatus with her new singles "Lose You To Love Me" and "Look At Her Now," both of which deal with her break up with Justin Bieber.

Now that Justin has married Hailey Bieber, these exes are done for good, but the wounds from their relationship are still healing. Gomez explained back in 2016 that she no longer performed "The Heart Wants What It Wants" on tour because it's too painful of a memory.

"There are things that I can’t do. I won’t be performing this on this tour because I don’t want to. It’s like when you smell a scent and it takes you back to a place that maybe wasn’t the best place. That stuff is a little bit more difficult."

She's Come So Far

Gomez has been clear that she is in a much better place lately, talking about cutting toxic relationships out of her life.

"I want it to be real and I don't want it to be codependent or messy or lack of communication. I think you know when you get older, you find people that are actually right for you, that are actually on the same wavelength.

I’ve been having way too much fun being on my own. It sucked for the first year, I was like, ‘I just wanna cuddle, I just wanna watch something and be adored.’ But now it feels good. Now it feels awesome."

Taylor Swift Loves It

Gomez opened up in a new interview with KISS FM UK, explaining that Taylor Swift cried the first time that she heard the new songs.

"I was with her when I played her some of it," she started. "I’ll never forget when I did play the video for ‘Lose You to Love Me’ and ‘Look at Her Now’ at her house with her parents, and it was one of the coolest experiences because I’ve been friends with her for over a decade and love her family as well so I was like, 'Do you just maybe see the video?' and she’s like, 'Amazing, of course.' It was so hysterical. She just started turning off every single light off in the kitchen. And I was like, 'This is not that intense, Taylor.'"

At first, Gomez was confused by Swift's reaction, but the catharsis was contagious.

"And then she played it and her and her mom just started crying. Like, just tears and tears and all of a sudden, it stopped, and it’s going to make me cry thinking about it because it wasn’t about how great the song was—which is a lot, coming from her—it was just that they had been on that journey with me intimately, and they were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life and it not involving the horrible things—the abuse, the emotional chaos. It felt like I had a huge sigh of relief and to see her and her mom feel that way, it was very sweet. It’s like an older sister and an aunt proud of their [friend]. It felt great to have people I love see it as that."

She's Genuine

Now that she's removed the emotional relationships that don't serve her growth, Gomez is open to start dating again, and explained what she wants in a relationship.

"I like group situations. So, I find that that's what makes me comfortable, if they're someone maybe I know of someone I know. I love genuine, you know? I feel like in the first five seconds, I can tell if I'm meeting someone that just wants one thing. And then I can tell when it's a good group of guys, and they're cool. I love funny. I don't like arrogant. I don't like, um, show off-y. I love playful and adventurous but really down to earth and cool. So I tend to like to be approached in a natural, organic way. And I hope that whoever is doing that is actually interested in me and not really my name. So, it's pretty hard but that's usually the best way."
