Selena Gomez Loves Tiny Tattoos and Her New 'Rare' Tat Fits Her Typical Type

Selena Gomez posted a selfie to Instagram Thursday debuting her new "Rare" tattoo, in honor of her new album with the same name. Experts say her album "Rare" is expected to debut at the number one spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart next week.

"Did it again @bangbangnyc rare," Gomez wrote in the caption alongside a blue butterfly emoji.

And, it's clear Selena isn't lying when she says she "did it again." Tiny tattoos seem to be the singer's obsession. Let's take a look back at some of the other tiny tats she's inked on her body over the years.

The tiny semi colon tattoo fights suicide.

Selena Gomez kicked off her tiny tattoo obsession in 2017. However, her tiny semi colon tattoo paved the way for her tiny tattoos having a bigger meaning.

She decided to get matching tattoos with some of the "13 Reasons Why" cast members while working as the show's executive producer. Tommy Dorfman, who plays Ryan Shaver on the show, explained the tiny tattoo's meaning on Instagram.

"Today was a magical day. Another day to be grateful to be alive. Alisha, Selena and I went together to get ; tattoos. The ; symbol stands for an end of one thought and a beginning of another. Instead of a period, authors use the semicolon to continue a sentence. For us, it means a beginning of another chapter in life in lieu of ending your life. I struggled with addiction and depression issues through high school and early college. I thought my life was over, I thought I'd never live past the age of 21. Today I'm grateful to be alive, in this new chapter of life in recovery, standing with my colleagues and friends, making art that helps other people. If you're struggling, if you feel suicidal, I urge you to click the link in my bio. Ask for help. Start a new chapter with the support of others. and RIP Amy Bleul, who started the semicolon movement," Dorfman wrote in the caption.

Her "4" tattoo celebrates her relationship with long-time girl friends.

Selena Gomez got matching "4" tattoos with her three best friends Ashley Cook, Raquelle Stevens and Courtney Lopez in August 2018 to celebrate Courtney's birthday and their long-lasting friendship.

"Best friend turned 26. Part 2. #4 because these women have stayed by my side for 7 years (@ashley_cook 12 years) 4, because you are my 4 for the rest of my life. I love you ladies. You all inspire me to be better, stronger, closer to god and we have lived the most INSANE story together already. Can't wait for 50 more!! Ps @raquellestevens had an actual panic attack it's a dot!" Selena wrote in the caption.

Selena and Courtney inked another number on them that night.

However, Selena didn't stop with the group tattoo that night. She also got another matching tattoo, this time just with her best friend Courtney Lopez. The two got tiny #1 tattoos on their ribs.

"And lastly, my actual #1 @courtneyjbarry you are an incredible woman. The way you handle life's most confusing moments is indescribable and graceful. You are moved by the littlest stories to the most heartbreaking ones, you will give someone your perfume if they say you smell nice, you are freaking hilarious and always stand firm in your faith, a loving sister, an amazing friend and a beautiful daughter. You are the definition of FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made baby! #1," Selena wrote in the caption.

Her "sunshine" tattoo remembers the close relationship she had with her grandma.

Finally, one of Selena's recent small tattoos is said to represent her grandmother who passed away. The tiny tattoo on her foot, posted last February, reads "sunshine."

While this tattoo didn't come with her typical Instagram explanation, fans speculate it refers to her grandma because she called her "my sunshine" on social media in the past.

However, this tattoo follows suit with the rest of her collection. Selena Gomez likes to keep her tattoos small and meaningful, using them to document the connections she's made and highlights of her life.
