Derek Hough literally shook up a Zumba class in New York City this week.
The World of Dance judge, known for his moves on Dancing With the Stars, even took over and led students breaking a sweat during a couple of numbers.
Of course, they were delighted, with some women even jumping up and down.
Hough’s appearance was part of his work with the Zumba fitness brand that’s encouraging people to move, just in time for Mental Health Awareness Month, which is May.
“One of the fastest ways to change the way you feel, emotionally and mentally, is to change the way you move your body,” Hough said. “For me, it’s so, so important. The connection between movement and mental health.”
When Hough wasn’t dancing, he encouraged people to reconsider what mental health really means and to be OK with talking about it.
“In the past when you’ve heard mental health, you think crazy,” Hough said. “That’s not what’s happening, that’s not what’s going on. It just means you’re going through something. And we all go through something. And I think it’s important to talk about it.”
