See Vanna White’s Game-Show Debut ... on ‘The Price Is Right’

She has long held court as the glamorous hostess on Wheel of Fortune, but two years before she was hired to co-host the iconic TV game show, Vanna White made her game-show debut on a rival daytime classic. In 1980, White was a contestant on The Price Is Right, but she didn’t win a “doggone thing,” as she puts it. Not only that, but host Bob Barker called her out for looking at herself in the monitor the whole time!

More than 35 years later, White has an explanation for this. By her account, it wasn’t vanity at all. “I wasn’t looking at myself in the monitor!” she told Yahoo Superfan recently. “I was looking at my friend to get an answer from her!”

Of course, since that not at all winning day, White has learned to hold her own with game-show hosts. While she has been paired with Pat Sajak since 1982, a daytime version of Wheel in the late 1980s and early ’90s had her working with hosts Ralph Benirschke and Bob Goen.

“It was kind of hard being with somebody else after being with Pat for so many years, but they were nice, they were professional, we got along,” White says. “It was just different.”
