See how this family of 8 navigates life in an RV

With eight people living under one roof, Floshea (@floshea_harrigan) and Kalil Harrigan’s fifth-wheel RV gives a whole new meaning to the term “full house.” On this episode of Dream Big, Live Small, the couple gives viewers a tour of their lively family’s RV, proving home is really where the heart is.

Kalil tells In The Know that “living in an RV is a huge sacrifice,” but the couple wouldn’t have it any other way. In 2015 they decided to permanently take their life with their 6 kids on the road. Floshea and Kalil planned to travel and work across the U.S., but they didn’t want to move their belongings from place to place constantly. For the past 5-and-a-half years, the road has been the Harrigan family’s primary address, thanks to a fifth-wheel RV.

Upon entering the RV, guests are greeted by an L-shaped sectional sofa that doubles as a queen size bed for the couple to sleep on while their twins occupy the primary bedroom. Moving on to the adjacent kitchen area, Floshea shows viewers the family’s residential full-size refrigerator, one of the more unique amenities the RV has to offer. Being a family of 8 people, Floshea says that it was important that the RV have a large refrigerator to accommodate everyone’s “great appetites.”

The Harrigans applied ample spatial creativity to their RV, especially when designing sleeping arrangements for their 6 children. A wooden ladder that pulls out from a side wall leads to a cozy loft where one child sleeps, which includes a twin bed, storage, and wall fixtures, tucked above the kitchen.

Beyond the kitchen is the “Kid Cave,” which features a charming reading nook with a mini futon and storage for all 6 kids’ belongings. “I was very intentional with this space to make sure that they had a place to hang out but also had all of their clothes [and] all of their things,” Floshea explains. “The biggest challenge with living with 6 children in an RV is trying to make sure that they have space for all the things [they need].” On top of storage and recreation, the “Kid Cave” also functions as another sleeping area with two queen bunk beds that come down from the ceiling.

One of the RV’s more unique characteristics is a half bathroom in addition to the impressively large main bathroom in the primary bedroom. With a full-size tub, washer and dryer, and walk-in closet, the primary bathroom features the holy trinity of amenities.

As for the future, the plan is to keep “living tiny.” Crediting the lifestyle for positively impacting the whole family, Floshea concludes, “it’s allowed us to really be more intentional with our time together and to really build deep relationships.”
