How to see ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ on the big screen in metro Phoenix

Best known for his role as Pee-wee Herman in the film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” actor Paul Reubens died on Sunday, July 30, after a years-long battle against cancer, which he kept under wraps.

Other roles Reubens took on include Lock in “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Derek Foreal in “Blow,” Amilyn in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and Tucker Cobblepot in “Batman Returns.”

The actor's legacy lives on through the big screen and if you want to reminisce on the life and laughs of Reubens, you'll have the chance at Harkins theaters this week, with a showing of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” on Tuesday and Wednesday.

What is ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ about?

The 1985 film "Pee-wee’s Big Adventure" directed by Tim Burton, is about Reubens’ character Pee-Wee Herman who is a whimsical child-like man. Herman’s tricked-out bicycle, which he treasures, is stolen by his neighbor and enemy Francis Buxton. The bike is sent away and Herman goes on an adventure to retrieve it dealing with a lot of ups, downs and craziness throughout his journey.

As part of Harkins’ Tuesday Night Classics, "Pee-wee’s Big Adventure" will be shown at theaters throughout Arizona, including:

• Arizona Mills 18 with IMAX

• Arrowhead Fountains 18

• Camelview at Fashion Square

• Chandler Crossroads 12

• Chandler Fashion 20

• Christown 14

• Estrella Falls 16

• Gateway Pavilions 18

• Lake Pleasant - CINÉ GRILL

• Norterra 14

• Park West 14

• Queen Creek 14

• SanTan Village 16

• Scottsdale 101 14

• Shea 14

• Superstition Springs 25

• Tempe Marketplace 16

All of these theaters except for Arizona Mills 18 and Christown 14 will have showings on Wednesday as well.

When are the showtimes for ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ at Harkins?

The showtimes for Tuesday all start at 7 p.m. with the exception of a showing at Lake Pleasant - CINÉ GRILL at 7:20 p.m., SanTan Village 16 at 7:10 p.m., Scottsdale 101 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Tempe Marketplace 16 at 7:15 p.m.

The Wednesday showtimes are all at 1 p.m. with the exception of a 12:40 p.m. showing at Lake Pleasant - CINÉ GRILL.

All of the tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday across all Harkins Theatres are $5 thanks to the Tuesday Night Classic deal for which classic films are shown at a discounted rate.
