See Mark Ruffalo and Mark Ruffalo as twin brothers in new HBO limited series
Not to be outdone by his Marvel movie co-star Paul Rudd, who took on two roles in Netflix’s Living With Yourself, Mark Ruffalo is pulling double duty this year in HBO’s miniseries I Know This Much Is True.
The first batch of photos debuted on Wednesday, timed to the home box office network’s Television Critics Association presentations. Ruffalo, who last appeared on the big screen in Todd Haynes’ Dark Waters, can be seen playing two very different but identical twin brothers Dominick and Thomas Birdsey.
The six-part series, written and directed by Derek Cianfrance (The Place Beyond the Pines), takes viewers to different points in the brothers’ lives to tell a moving tale about betrayal, sacrifice, and forgiveness. The story is based on author Wally Lamb’s book I Know This Much Is True: A Novel (P.S.).
The cast also features The Fighter‘s Melissa Leo as Dominick and Thomas’ mother, Rosie O’Donnell as social worker Lisa Sheffer, The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi as Thomas’ newly appointed psychologist, Green Room‘s Imogen Poots as Dominick’s live-in girlfriend, A Most Violent Year‘s John Procaccino as Dominick and Thomas’ stepfather, Juliette Lewis as a self-absorbed grad student hired by Dominick, and Kathryn Hahn as Dominick’s ex-wife.
Also featured are The Goldberg‘s Rob Huebel as Dominick’s best friend Leo, First Reformed‘s Philip Ettinger as younger Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, The Nightingale‘s Aisling Franciosi as a younger version of Hahn’s character Dessa Constantine, True Detective‘s Michael Greyeyes as one of Dominick and Thomas’ former classmates, Scandal‘s Guillermo Diaz as Sergeant Mercado, Italian actor Marcello Fonte as Dominick and Thomas’ maternal grandfather from Sicily, Doctor Sleep‘s Bruce Greenwood as the head of the board at the Hatch Forensic Institute, and Aquarius‘ Brian Goodman as an older cop named Al.
I Know This Much Is True will premiere on HBO this April, though a more specific date is not currently known.
