Did you know animation icon Walt Disney incorporated architectural elements from his own home into 1959’s animated classic Sleeping Beauty?

Disney, who built his Los Angeles abode in 1932, lived there with his family until 1950 — just as the idea of a Sleeping Beauty film emerged. He built the house with Tudor and French Normandy styles in mind — styles that evoke the castles and cottages of European folkloric fantasies, which, in turn, inspired his most popular animated features, starting with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. You can see evidence of his affinity for fairy tale-type architecture in Sleeping Beauty, too, especially when you compare frames of the film with his own house.

For proof, check out the new photos we’ve added to our enormously popular slideshow, A Rare Peek Inside Walt Disney’s Fairy-Tale Home, showing Disney’s private hilltop home alongside structures that appear in Sleeping Beauty. Among the inclusions are new shots that show off Disney’s game room, dining room, and screening room.
