Dance royalty will be in town next month when Misty Copeland visits Indianapolis.

But the history-making prima ballerina won’t be performing during her March 20 appearance at the Madame Walker Legacy Center.

Copeland will be The Indianapolis Public Library’s featured speaker at 2024 Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture.

Who is Misty Copeland?

Misty Copeland made history as the first Black woman promoted to principal dancer at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre.

Misty Copeland, of the American Ballet Theatre, speaks during a session of the Southern California Ballet Intensive at the Camarillo Academy of Performing Arts on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023.
