See Deadpool kill baby Hitler in infamous scene from 'Deadpool 2' extended edition

[Spoilers Follow]

With a domestic gross of $318 million, Deadpool 2 was one of this summer’s biggest hits — and it now stands as the highest-grossing live-action sequel in movie history. Its arrival on home video should also be a hit, given that it’ll be available in both its original theatrical version and a “Super Duper $@%!#& Cut” that includes 15 minutes of additional footage. And now, the most notorious moment of that new version is available for all to see.

Arguably the funniest part of Deadpool 2 is its final sequence, in which Ryan Reynolds’s foul-mouthed Marvel assassin travels back in time to clean up his past mistakes. However, one snippet that was shot for that scene by Reynolds and director David Leitch, but didn’t make it into multiplexes, involved Deadpool heading to late nineteenth-century Germany to do away with a baby Adolf Hitler, thus preventing World War II. That eye-opening assassination can now be seen above, as it’s leaked onto YouTube.

When our own Kevin Polowy spoke to Leitch and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick back in May, Reese explained that the above scene may have been even too much for a Deadpool 2 audience to stomach. “That was an example of possibly going a little too far — not in the idea of killing Hitler — but in the idea of killing a baby. Deadpool was actually going in to strangle an infant, and I think there was something about that that made people [uncomfortable].” Leitch agreed, saying that, when it came to testing that scene at an early screening, he learned a valuable lesson: “The thing about comedy that I’ve learned is that it is kind of empirical. People laugh or they don’t. The volume of the laugh can be measured, and we usually went for the one that got the biggest laugh.”

Deadpool 2 is now available on Digital HD, and premieres on Blu-ray and DVD on Aug. 21.
