What is the inspiration behind the Stevie Nicks Barbie doll?

The Mattel website says the Barbie is a “collectible doll that emulates her signature spellbinding style.” The doll is inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 “Rumors” album cover and features Nicks holding her iconic tambourine.

On Nicks’ X post, she says Mattel reached out to make the Barbie in the “Rumors” cover style.

However, Nicks initially questioned if the doll would look like her, have her spirit and have her heart.

“When I look at her, I see my 27-year-old self — all the memories of walking out on a big stage in that black outfit and those gorgeous boots come rushing back — and then I see myself now in her face,” Nicks said in the post. “What we have been through since 1975 — the battles we have fought, the lessons we have learned — together. I am her and she is me. She absolutely has my heart.”

Nicks ended the post by thanking Mattel and saying the doll means the world to her.

The Barbie was designed by Bill Greening who said on an Instagram post that the costume, boots and necklace were selected by Nicks herself for the doll. It was sculpted by Ray Cavalluzzi who captured “Rumors” era Nicks’ “bewitching beauty perfectly,” Greening said in the post.

The Stevie Nicks Barbie has flowy blonde hair, textured bangs and a smokey eye. For her outfit, she is wearing an “ethereal” dress that is inspired by the 1977 album “Rumors” by Fleetwood Mac. The dress has a velvety wrap bodice and a layered skirt that “drapes and swirls like smoke.”

A reference to hit song Rhiannon on their self-titled album “Fleetwood Mac,” the website says Nicks looks ready to “take to the sky like a bird in flight with her flowing chiffon statement sleeves.”

Nicks’ doll includes her signature golden moon necklace, tall black boots and a tambourine with ribbons. There will also be a doll stand included with the purchase and a certificate of authenticity.
