Second Alibaba Pictures Executive Arrested

Alibaba Pictures Group has confirmed that a second company executive has been detained by Chinese authorities.

Chinese media report that Kong Qi has been detained by security forces on suspicion of corruption in July. Kong was a VP at Alibaba Pictures Group, and general manager of Tao Piaopiao, its online ticketing unit.

“We are declining comment as the case is under litigation,” an APG spokesman told Variety.

Patrick Liu Chunning, another former APG executive was arrested last year and tried this year on charges of accepting $308,000 (RMB2.14 million) of bribes while working at a previous job with Tencent Video.

The local media sources say that Kong’s alleged offences also occurred prior to his joining APG, and while he was working at Tencent. King is alleged to have accepted bribes of some $1.44 million (RMB10 million.)

Liu was dismissed from APG in January this year for repeatedly failing to attend board meetings.

APG has its shares listed in Hong Kong and Singapore. No statement has been made to either stock market on the Kong case.
