Sebastian Stan Cast as Young Donald Trump in Movie “The Apprentice” Alongside Jeremy Strong: Reports

Jeremy Strong will reportedly play Donald Trump's former lawyer Roy Cohn

Sebastian Stan is reportedly set to portray Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, multiple outlets reported that Stan, best known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play a young Trump in an upcoming film titled The Apprentice from filmmaker Ali Abbasi.

Stan, 41, is expected to star alongside Succession's Jeremy Strong, who will play lawyer and prosecutor Roy Cohn, and Borat 2's Maria Bakalova, who is set to play the former president's first wife Ivana Trump, per multiple outlets.

An official logline for the movie states that the film is “an exploration of power and ambition set in a world of corruption and deceit.”

“It’s a mentor-protege story that charts the origins of an American dynasty," reads the logline. "Filled with larger than life characters, it reveals the moral and human cost of a culture defined by winners and losers."

The film, which is in production now, is expected to cover Trump's business in New York City during the 1970s and 1980s, according to multiple outlets. Gabriel Sherman, an author and reporter known for his 2017 book The Loudest Voice in the Room, a biography of Fox News founder Roger Ailes, is writing the new movie.

Cohn, the late prosecutor and attorney whom Strong will reportedly play in the movie, was known for his work with 1950s-era U.S. senator Joseph McCarthy on various anti-communism investigations within the federal government, commonly known as "McCarthyism." Cohn went on to work as a lawyer in New York City and counted Trump as one of his clients until his death at 59 in 1986, per a Vanity Fair feature on the pair's relationship.

Ivana Trump, whom Bakalova is reportedly playing, married Donald in 1977. The pair had three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric, before their divorce in the 1990s. Ivana died in 2022 at the age of 73.

The Apprentice is filming while the former president remains engaged in a civil fraud trial brought against him, his adult sons, and the Trump Organization by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The lawsuit aims to have Trump, who has also been charged with 91 felonies in various U.S. jurisdictions this year, fined $250 million and banned from doing business in New York.

Filmmaker Abbasi's most recent work includes the 2022 movie Holy Spider and directing jobs on the first season of HBO's The Last of Us. Other upcoming projects Stan is involved with include Marvel's upcoming Thunderbolts film and the movie A Different Man, after he starred in three films in 2023.
