Seattle Seahawks add two former Penn State players as undrafted free agents

The Seattle Seahawks passed on Penn State players during the NFL draft, but the franchise still went with a little Nittany Lion flavor in the post-draft undrafted free agent signing frenzy. The Seahawks added long snapper Chris Stoll and safety/linebacker Jonathan Sutherland as undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL draft.

One report on the signing of Sutherland referred to him as a special teams ace, which could suggest he may be viewed as a contributor on special teams for the Seahawks in their mind. Of course, Stoll is also one to consider as a special teams ace as last year’s recipient of the Patrick Mannelly Award as the nation’s top long snapper.

Sutherland played multiple positions for the Penn State defense the past couple of seasons by filling a role at safety and helping to fulfill a need at linebacker. Sutherland’s versatility and commitment to doing whatever was needed to help the team led to him being viewed as one of the most respected players in the program. He was a four-time team captain, joining quarterback Sean Clifford in that unique distinction.
