Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean your lazy-hazy days of binge-watching have to end, too. In fact, the list of Netflix’s August 2019 releases just dropped, and it has plenty to keep you entertained through this last leisurely stretch of summer days. August has a little bit of everything, from new series and movies — including more of Netflix’s increasingly impressive originals — to a plethora of old favorites.

Bummed out that July brought the final season with Orange Is the New Black’s ladies of Litchfield? Lucky for you, new episodes of Glow will satisfy your fix for TV with strong female leads. Dying to finally watch the new prequel to The Dark Crystal? Yep, that also hits the streaming service this month. The trade-off, of course, is that we’ll have to bid adieu to a few favorites as well. All of the Cinderella Story movies are leaving Netflix in August, along with the Final Destination franchise. You’ll have to say so-long to both the 1988 version and 2007 adaptation of Hairspray, too.

Don’t fret, though — Netflix is rolling out plenty of newbies in August that’ll keep your queue stacked. Here are our top picks for titles to stream, along with the full list of arrivals coming soon.

Otherhood (Aug. 2)

Yes, yes… we realize Felicity Huffman is still in hot water over the college admissions scandal. But this Netflix Original also features the always amazing and empowering Angela Bassett and Patricia Arquette, which is enough to tip the scales for us. Plus, the story of three neglected empty-nester moms going on a road trip to reconnect with their adult sons just sounds like fun, right?

Wu Assassins (Aug. 8)

If you’re still a little sore over the fact that Iron Fist is finito, you’re going to want to add Wu Assassins to your list. This Netflix Original series follows Kai Jin (Iko Uwais) as a young Chinatown chef in present-day San Francisco. And while that sounds pretty mild, things get dicey when Jin gets tangled up in the Chinese Triad’s pursuit of deadly ancient powers. Enter a mystical spirit and enhanced martial arts skills, and you’ve got a kickass supernatural good time.

GLOW: Season 3 (Aug. 9)

As if Glow wasn’t already amazing enough, this season sees the ladies take the Vegas strip by storm! In their new capacity headlining at the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino, the women face new challenges as their residency in Sin City has unexpected impacts on their personal and professional lives.

Mindhunter: Season 2 (Aug. 16)

Two years and very few updates later, fans will finally get to once again follow along as FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) study serial killers for the Behavioral Science Unit. This season, they’re headed to the South to focus on the infamous Atlanta child murders that took place between 1979 and 1981.

Falling Inn Love (Aug. 29)

We’re total suckers for practically any and all Netflix Original rom-coms, so it’s safe to say we’re counting down the days until this release. In the movie, Christina Milian stars as Gabriela Diaz, a San Francisco-based designer who loses her job and her boyfriend in the same week. But thanks to a potent concoction of wine, Wi-Fi and pure dumb luck, she enters a “Win an Inn” contest — and comes out on top. She heads to New Zealand to claim her prize, where she discovers much more than a reno project in the process.

Workin’ Moms: Season 3 (Aug. 29)

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Workin’ Moms is one of the most underrated shows on TV and, if you aren’t already, you should be watching it. Miraculously, the third season follows fast n the heels of the only-just-released second season — which ended with a major marital cliffhanger for Kate (Catherine Reitman).

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Aug. 30)

Children of the ‘80s and ‘90s may have been psychologically scarred by the puppet-animated dark fantasy The Dark Crystal growing up, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t super-excited about Netflix’s reboot. Now, a new generation will get to experience the world of Thra through an all-new adventure.
