While And Just Like That was not immune to any critiques, it’s safe to say that at least a few of the Sex and the City reboot‘s new characters were a welcome addition. One of the highlights, of course, was Karen Pittman’s character Nya Wallace, a Professor at Columbia who becomes one of Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) closest confidantes.

Although viewers enjoyed seeing Nya’s storyline, which included splitting up with her longtime partner Andre (LeRoy McClain) and learning how to be single again, it looks like her character has come to an end. On March 25, Max confirmed to Variety that Pittman will not be returning for season three, which will most likely air sometime in 2025.

“It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That,” a spokesperson for the streaming platform said in a statement to the outlet.

“As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others,” the statement continued. “Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible.” According to Variety, Pittman’s time is being shared with Apple TV for The Morning Show and Netflix in the upcoming adaptation of Judy Blume’s novel Forever.

So, with so many commitments all at once, Pittman has decided to leave the show. “Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of Season 3 of And Just Like That,” the statement said. “Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors.”

News of Pittman’s departure from the show comes shortly after another character, Sara Ramírez’s controversial Che Diaz, was also announced not to be returning for the third season. Ramírez’s departure, however, was due to very different reasons.

According to Daily Mail, Ramírez’s absence in season three was due to a lack of interest in the character’s storyline.

“Sara was not fired because they support Palestine and the cease-fire,” a source told the outlet. At the time, Ramírez, who uses they/them pronouns, was being vocal about their political thoughts on social media. “Sara was fired because Che brought nothing to the show anymore. The storyline as a struggling comedian was a waste of airtime and Sara knew it.”

With two major characters saying goodbye ahead of season three, viewers are surely wondering how the show will continue on. Only time will tell!
