Will There Be a Season 4 of “The White Lotus”? What We Know So Far — Including Where It Might Take Place

The White Lotus has always promised plenty of beautiful and serene surroundings — and at least one mysterious murder.

Creator, writer and director Mike White’s anthology series has entranced viewers since its premiere in 2021. Each season follows a new group of wealthy vacationers as they rest and relax at one of the ritzy White Lotus resorts around the world.

The series has so far been filmed at three real Four Seasons resorts, with the first installment taking place in Hawaii, and the second set in Sicily, Italy. The latest season transported viewers to Thailand, where the latest batch of glamorous guests (played by Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Walton Goggins and many more) encountered enlightenment, spirituality and death.

“I’ve dabbled in Buddhism, and Thailand worked for the themes that I was trying to get into. The show is about identity and desire — and then there’s another part of me, the mischievous gay part, that’s just like, ‘How do I create something that’s dirty and funny?’ ” White told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the season 3 finale.

After the latest installment came to a close on April 6, fans were left eagerly awaiting answers on another mystery: any updates on the next season of HBO’s Emmy-winning satire series.

In the latest Unpacking the Episode on MAX, White teased, “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves against rocks’ vernacular. But there’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”

So, has The White Lotus been renewed for a fourth season, and when can fans expect to return to the luxurious — and dangerous — resort? Here’s everything we know so far about The White Lotus season 4.

Has The White Lotus been renewed for season 4?

Yes! Keep your suitcase out and your resort wear ready because The White Lotus has already been renewed for season 4. Variety confirmed the news in January 2025, almost a full month before the highly anticipated season 3 premiere on Feb. 16.

Months earlier, in November 2024, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max, told reporters, per Variety, “Mike, obviously — if he wants to move forward and do the four seasons — he will do the fourth season.”

The renewal happened even before season 3’s impressive numbers started rolling in. The latest season of HBO’s Sunday night tentpole has been raking in the ratings, with episode 7 — the penultimate of the season — hitting a series high of 4.8 million viewers, per Variety.

The next season might sound a little different, however, since the series’ composer, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, confirmed to The New York Times in April 2025 that he will not be returning for another stay at The White Lotus.

Where will The White Lotus Season 4 be set?

Hawaii, Italy, Thailand … where in the world will The White Lotus go next? The location of season 4 has not been announced, but there have been hints — and one strong possibility is the series taking viewers on another European vacation.

“We’re going on some locations scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon,” Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama, told Deadline in February 2025. “I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

Orsi added that there were “some countries on the map that we talked about, but nothing to report on until they actually go locations scouting.”

Fans have speculated that since the first three seasons were all set in a sunny locale, the upcoming season could switch things up by spending time at a White Lotus resort in a cooler climate.

However, this theory may be unlikely as White’s longtime producing partner, David Bernad, told The Guardian in February 2025, “Mike doesn’t like the cold.”

All three seasons of The White Lotus have been filmed at a Four Seasons resort, so taking a look at the hotel franchise’s list of locations could also help narrow down the search.

Going Down Under is a possibility too. Speaking at Sydney’s Vivid Festival in 2023, White expressed his desire to set a future season of The White Lotus in Australia.

“My dream would be to hit every continent, so yeah, this is like its own continent basically. We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going,” White said during a press conference. “It would be so fun. Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

There may also be a chance that the show's next season will be filmed in Japan. Bernad told PEOPLE that at first, he and White wanted season 3 to take place there, but Thailand ended up making more sense for production.

"We didn't know much about Thailand," he said. "I had been there once before, but when we boiled down countries that worked weather-wise, had a tax rebate, that were film friendly, and really, it was just only Thailand in that region. So, we were like, oh, we'll go to Thailand first and we'll go on to Japan."

Has filming started for The White Lotus season 4?

While The White Lotus has been renewed for another season, cameras have not yet started rolling. When the season 4 renewal was announced, Variety reported that production was being “eyed for 2026.”

When will The White Lotus season 4 premiere?

There has been no word yet on when the next season of The White Lotus will premiere.

There was previously an extended hiatus between seasons 2 and 3 because of the actors' and writers' strikes. The season 2 finale aired on Dec. 11, 2022, and the following season premiered more than two years later, on Feb. 16, 2025. Since filming for season 4 probably won’t even start until 2026, fans have a while to wait before they return to the grand grounds of a White Lotus resort.
