A hunt for the elusive hairy being called sasquatch is planned for a heavily wooded area in Athens.

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department is hosting “Sasquatch Adventure” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The program is for those 10 years of age and older, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

“Fearlessly this group, led by highly trained government staff, will search for animal signs, evaluate habitat, experiment with calls and other techniques in search of sasquatch,” the park services reported.

The search for sasquatch, sometimes known as Bigfoot, will take place in the Tallassee Forest, a 310-acre nature preserve that is currently closed to the public. The large tract borders the Middle Oconee River.

Participants must register beforehand and are asked to wear clothes and shoes appropriate for hiking. Also bring some water and a snack for what the park services calls a “strenuous backwoods adventure.”

Cameras for taking blurry pictures of any sasquatch seen are optional.
