A search has been launched for a 28-year-old Louisiana man who went missing while on a Carnival cruise with his family.

The disappearance was reported to authorities Monday afternoon after crew aboard the Carnival Glory were unable to locate the passenger on the ship, according to the Coast Guard’s Heartland Division's statement on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Family told local CBS affiliate WWL-TV that the man, Tyler Barnett, originally from Houma, was last seen by two relatives just before 11:45 p.m. local time on Sunday.

In a statement, Carnival Cruise Line said the Glory's security team immediately searched the ship after the guest was reported missing, according to NBC affiliate WDSU and FOX affiliate WVUE-DT.

A broader search for the man was launched on Monday after authorities were alerted, according to the Coast Guard. Crews have since scoured “more than 200 miles of the ship’s voyage path.”

However, “dangerous weather conditions” have hampered the search, which was temporarily paused overnight.

“As soon as it is safe to do so, we will launch additional search assets,” the Coast Guard said.

It is unclear when the man may have fallen overboard, according to the Coast Guard's statement.

Family members said Barnett’s passenger card shows swipes at the ship’s casino at 12:15 a.m., and his room just before 12:30 a.m., WWL-TV reported. However, his bed did not appear to be touched.

Carnival crew members began searching for Barnett around 7:30 a.m., and the Coast Guard got involved around 1 p.m., they added.

Carnival Cruise Line said its Care Team “is supporting the missing guest's family on board” the ship, which is expected to arrive in Montego Bay, Jamaica as scheduled on Wednesday, WDSU and WVUE-DT reported.

Carnival Cruise Line did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Family members are now anxiously awaiting answers. On Facebook, Kathy Diane Rouse asked everyone to pray for her grandnephew’s safe return. “Please, please really pray that they find him, and that he is ok,” she wrote in the post on her page.

“Our hearts are breaking,” Mason added. “I can't believe this is happening."
