Search Continues for Missing RIT Student Who Disappeared 2 Weeks Ago: ‘I Refuse to Quit,’ Says Dad

The search continues for a New York college student who has been missing for two weeks.

Rochester Institute of Technology student Matthew Grant, 22, of Henrietta, was last seen around 10 p.m. local time on Nov. 20, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

That same night, Matthew was captured on camera inside a gas station between Exits 39 and 41 near Syracuse and Waterloo, ABC affiliate WHAM-TV and CBS affiliate WROC-TV reported.

Matthew is believed to be operating a dark charcoal gray 2014 Jeep Cherokee with Michigan license plate number ESR8141, according to the MCSO, which released an image of the car on Friday.

Deputies believe Matthew is alone but not in danger, according to ABC affiliate WTEN.

Mark Grant, Matthew’s father, told NBC affiliate WHEC-TV that the last two weeks have been “the most excruciating” time of his life.

“I’m as broken as a person can be, but I refuse to quit,” the dad said, per WROC-TV.

Matthew told roommates that he was going out to meet a friend prior to leaving his off-campus home, according to WHAM-TV.

The EZ-Pass on Matthew’s car shows him getting off the New York State Thruway at exit 36, according to WHEC-TV and WTEN.

However, Mark said authorities “have not been able to find the footage” needed to determine which direction his son went from there, WHEC-TV reported.

Members of Matthew’s family have traveled from Michigan to New York to help with the search for their missing loved one, according to WHAM-TV.

The search for the missing college student has expanded to both the Syracuse and Adirondack regions of the state.

“We’re frustrated. We’re concerned. It’s definitely taken us by surprise," cousin Ryon Grant told WROC-TV. "We’re a big family. We’re a close family. So, we’re holding it together the best we can."
