What started as a fishing trip for two elderly brothers from Glendale, California, has resulted in a missing person’s case and a now-suspended dive search.

The individuals, Minas Khacheryan, 86, and Grigor Khacheryan, 78, were fishing in the California Aqueduct on Sept. 29, 2023, when they both went missing, according to NBC Los Angeles, CBS Los Angeles and CW affiliate KTLA.

The two men were last seen at 8 a.m. PST on the 1000 block of East Chevy Chase Drive in Glendale before heading to the aqueduct, police said.

The search for Minas and Grigor began on Sept. 30, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. PST. Authorities say that it is possible that the brothers fell into the water while fishing, per KTLA.

Authorities shared photos from the search on Saturday, but the following day, the search was called off.

Sgt. Michael Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Missing Persons Bureau told NBC that the aqueduct’s current speed may have taken the two men’s bodies miles away from where authorities were searching.

"We just don't know," LASD Sergeant Michael Rodriguez told CBS Los Angeles. "There's nothing we can do as far as a search."
