Sean Spicer Threatened to Go 'SNL' on the White House Press Corps
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer threatened to channel Melissa McCarthy at his daily briefing today. In response to a question about a post from his Twitter account-which went up 22 minutes after this month's jobs report, in apparent violation of a (fairly obscure) federal rule-Spicer referenced the recurring Saturday Night Live depiction of him:

In the sketches, McCarthy plays a comically combative figure who at one point physically moves her podium to assume a more intimidating stance towards the assembled press:
Spicer was a little worked up because the violation seemed trivial in light of this month's jobs report, which showed the economy added 235,000 non-farm jobs. The unemployment rate was down one tenth of a percent, to 4.7. This is a strong showing, but largely falls within the pattern of the last several years. Nonetheless, Republicans trumpeted the numbers, even when they had a slightly different take on better growth numbers last February:

To his credit, Spicer has always taken his SNL alter ego in stride, calling McCarthy's shtick "funny." Not so much for his boss: The president had a sad when he found out his press secretary was portrayed by a woman.
